Lot #1559 The Model 321 is an instrument designed to process television signals so that the brightness of individual picture elements may easily be measured. The equivalent of "line selection" is provided at TV field rates, and the resultant single-trace waveform is displayed directly on the screen of the picture monitor in a 1:1 relationship with the video information. In essence the Video Analyzer is a sampling device which first converts wide-band video signals to a frequency range of between 8 and 15 Kilohertz, depending upon the scan rates of the associated TV system. One sample per TV line is taken, forming a vertical "row" which may be manually positioned to any point on the TV raster as in conventional line selecting oscillo-scopes. The sampled output has, however, a 100% duty cycle and thus presents a bright, flicker-free trace. The sampling row can be slanted if desired. The slow-scan video output of the 321 is available for external use and is also connected internally to a pulse position modulator which allows display of the low-frequency video waveform on a conventional picture monitor. In addition, an "electronic reticule" is provided. As a further vital function, the Model 321 also provides a DC output which may be used in conjunction with an external voltmeter for precise point-by-point measurements of video amplitudes. This signal may also be fed to a chart recorder, and either the vertical or horizontal marker slowly swept across the TV raster to permanently record "line-selected" video data on either the horizontal or vertical scanning axis. Low-cost waveform documentation is achieved by this expedient and a large, permanent trace may be produced for careful analysis. Integration may also be used to extract low-amplitude video information from noisy signal.
